In 1950s in England as well as in the whole Eu rope the popularity of light lagers was on the rise. Bottomfermenting breweries didn’t have tradition in the Britain and pubs thus had beers imported from the continent on tap. The original topfermenting breweries were dependent on the ever diminishing conservative part of the population and so were forced to create a product able to compete with the golden beer. In 1980s it has been observed that the strength of lagers is not due to the bottomfermentation itself but rather a very pale malt granting the beer a lighter body and a drier, fresher finish. A new beer style was born with the name of Golden Ale, thanks to its light gold color. Originally a summer beer, it is today due to its popularity brewed yearround. Accord ing to statistics, demand for this beer is gradually increasing on the British Islands, at the expense of lager. A modern Golden Ale is in many aspects similar to the popular American style APA, yet being weaker and despite a citrusy aroma of used American hops varieties it preserves a groundy bitterness typical for English beers. Our one is brewed with the combination of Cascade and Challanger hops and fermented by original Lon don yeast.
