Pri šľachtení chmeľov sa prihliada na viacero faktorov a vlastností výsledného produktu. Niekedy je prioritou vysoká horkosť, inokedy charakteristická chuť a aróma. Veľmi podstatným faktorom sú parazity a choroby.Títo škodci sa prirodzene vyvinuli v oblastiach s častým výskytom chmeľu ako je Európa, kde sa pestuje už tisíce rokov. Pri šľachtení pre Európske krajiny sa preto prihliada na odolnosť voči chorobám a parazitom, často na úkor iných vlastností. Nový Zéland ako ostrov nikdy nebol prirodzeným prostredím chmeľu, ten tam bol prinesený až človekom v nedávnej dobe. Na jeho území sa tak nevyskytujú žiadne parazity napádajúce chmeľ, vďaka čomu je pri šľachtení možno myslieť len na vytváranie výnimočných aróm a chutí. Motueka je pomenovaná podľa maorského mena rieky tečúcej na severe Južného ostrova Nového Zélandu. Vyznačuje sa limetkovou vôňou, chuťou sladkého tropického ovocia a štipľavou horkosťou pripomínajúcou české chmele. Tiež sa jej niekedy hovori Saaz 2. Saaz je nemecké meno českého mesta Žatec a pôvodný chmeľ Saaz je v našich končinách notoricky známy Žatecký poloraný červeňák. Aróma Motueky je však natoľko výnimočná a inovatívna, že si našla cestu do nášho sortimentu už dávno. Several factors and final product properties are considered upon hop breeding. Sometimes it is the highest possible bitterness, at other times its characteristic flavor and aroma that are the priority. One very important factor is the parasites and diseases. These pests naturally evolved in areas, where hops has been present, as is Europe, where it has been bred for thousands of years. Hence, when breeding for European countries, this resistance is taken into account, often at the expense of other properties. New Zealand, as an island, has never been a natural hops habitat and hops was only brought there by man recently. There are thus no parasites infecting the hops there, thanks to what only the creation of unique aromas and flavors can be had in mind while breeding. Motueka is named after a Maori name of a river in the north of the New Zealand’s South Island. It signifies in its lime aroma, sweet citrus fruit taste and spicy bitterness reminiscent of Czech hops. It is indeed sometimes referred to as Saaz 2. Saaz, named after the German name of a Bohemian town 2atec, is a notoriously famous variety. Motueka’s aroma is nonetheless so extraordinary and innovative, we have included it in our repertoire long time ago. So that you could fully ap-preciate its exquisite aroma and flavor, we have brewed a SMaSH – Single Malt and Single Hop style of beer and completed our series with a fourth gem with a label Lanius SMaSH. /p>
